Guardians Of The Galaxy by Matthew Neale

In the first shot, we can see in the mise-en-scene as being space. We can tell this as the first shot is an establishing shot and we can see the stars and different planets. This tells me that the genre of the film will definitely have elements of sci-fi in it as science fiction films tend to elements of space. In addition, the first shot also contains a Dutch angle camera movement. This means that the camera is rotating as the shot is being filmed, this adds to the scene as since the camera is rotating, it gave me the feeling that the camera was trying to show us that there is no gravity in space so everything will just float and rotate around. This also adds to the idea of the film being a sci-fi.

To continue, the second shot was also an establishing shot. And what it showed me is that the world in which the star lord is currently landing on has been destroyed. We can tell this from the mise-en-scene as in the background we can see black clouds of smoke rising from the ground. This tends to be cause from large scale fires or either bombings. Also giving me the idea that the world he has gone to is a world that could currently be facing hard times, or even taking place in a war. In addition, this shot also shows us that the planet he is on is not earth, linking in to the genre being sci-fi, but also I can tell because of the huge rocky layout and the lack of civilization. This film and use of the sci-fi genre could also have been used to show us what the future for the human race could hold, which would categorize the film under the sub-genre dystopian.

The third shot introduces the first main character, star lord. We can see him slowly emerging from the mist from a high angle point of view, with low-key lighting. Because he emerges from the mist, the editor may have used a cross fade effect to make the character less visible at first, but allow the scene to look spookier as the star lord finally emerges. In addition the use of low-key lighting may have been used to also support the idea of big smoke filled clouds hovering above him blocking out the sunlight. Adding extra emphasis on the idea that the planet is at war, has suffered from a battle or maybe just in a bad state from natural causes, as low-key lighting tends to be used to represent something or someone as being bad or evil. Furthermore the high angle shot may have been used just to introduce the character and his surrounding, as it was an extreme long shot and a wide shot. But the angle may represent the idea that we are better than him, or above him as we are not alone. Whereas since the star lord was taken away from his family at a young age and now has no-one, he is alone. So the high angle camera gives me personally some information about his past.

In addition, the forth shot is also a long shot that gives us a tiny bit more information. As from the mise-en-scene I can tell that there is a lot of mist behind the star lord and even in front of him. This could be seen symbolic of his current state of mind and his plans for life. It shows me that the star lord has a misty past in which he can’t remember fully, and that he is not clear on where his life will take him in the future. Causing his mind to not care about anything and not be afraid to do something that could get him in trouble.

Unit 14 - Digital magazine production
Unit 8 - Responding to a comission
Unit 4 - Understanding requirements of film production

Finance
  • Some funds are sourced from the Government. Many nations now have a tax scheme which allocates funding for film makers.
  • Pre-sales and Co-Productions: Some film makers will sell the film for a cheaper price to gain revenue, in addition they will work with other producers who may have money.
  • Product Placement: Some film producers will work with big brand managers to gain funding for including their products as props on set.
  • Some producers use the power of music, as they are closely related to each other, in order to attract more people in to buying their film.
Time
  • Re-arranging the order of production strips to find the best shooting schedule
  • Choosing certain dates for when to record based around the weather
Personnel
  • cameramen
  • makeup + costume people
  • director
  • editor
  • soundman
  • lighting guy
  • catering staff
Equipment + facilities
  • shoulder mount support for camera - £30
  • hand held stabilizer -£60
  • full day at studio -£700
codes of practise
  • must have rights and permission to use certain props or music from the producer or owner of the company.
  • must have legalised props
  • everything taking place in a movie must be legalized such as a stunt.
I think all of this is very important in creating a film as it Is what combines together in order to make film actually work, and look good. Without all of this it would just be like recording a film from your phone, no quality, no emotions being created, just a bland film being created.

The 20 best magazine covers of 2013 | Creative Bloq

Unit 1 - Media Representation
Introduction to representation

In this magazine cover chosen (right), I believe that it shows men as being quite bold characters. I get this impression because of the use of bold colours and handwriting fonts. In addition the fact that the designer of the cover magazine decided to use handwriting fonts gives me the idea that he might be trying to show Johnny Depp as being a standard person, who enjoys simple things, which could represent men as being simple. Else the creator would have used more stylish fonts maybe to show that men or Johnny Depp as being stylish.

I believe that the audience for this would be aimed at Johnny Depp fans or people who are interested in him. Firstly this is because the front cover and all the words surrounding a picture of Johnny Depp are statements related to him. For example 'Pirate' as he was the main star in The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. In addition the front cover gives the audience an idea of what information they will find in the magazine before they actually buy it. The use of a rhetorical question on the front page is a good example of this. The phrase 'will Johnny thunder on' gives the reader the idea that Johnny Depp ,may be retiring from film production and people who are fans of him will buy in to the magazine as they support him and will want to find out his reasons for doing so.

The use of a turquoise background colour gives of the impression that the magazine will be informative. This is because the colour turquoise helps to open up communication from the heart to the spoken word. It is also a happy and friendly colour. Firstly this could show that they are representing men, and Johnny Depp as being happy and friendly. Secondly the colour could also represent that they interviewed Depp and have taken words that he has said from the heart, and put them into words in order to tell the audience about him.

The red colour for the writing 'Depp at 50' could show us that even though he is 50 years of age, he is still such a big idol who everyone loves. This is because the colour red in this connotes ideas of love and happiness, also a full heart. Showing that Johnny could have a heart full of love that he shares with his family, friends and fans. Which is something he acts on all the time, for example when he went to a children's hospital dressed as jack sparrow from The Pirates Of The Caribbean, in order to spread love and bring happiness to young children.
