Introduction to representation

In this magazine cover chosen (right), I believe that it shows men as being quite bold characters. I get this impression because of the use of bold colours and handwriting fonts. In addition the fact that the designer of the cover magazine decided to use handwriting fonts gives me the idea that he might be trying to show Johnny Depp as being a standard person, who enjoys simple things, which could represent men as being simple. Else the creator would have used more stylish fonts maybe to show that men or Johnny Depp as being stylish.

I believe that the audience for this would be aimed at Johnny Depp fans or people who are interested in him. Firstly this is because the front cover and all the words surrounding a picture of Johnny Depp are statements related to him. For example 'Pirate' as he was the main star in The Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. In addition the front cover gives the audience an idea of what information they will find in the magazine before they actually buy it. The use of a rhetorical question on the front page is a good example of this. The phrase 'will Johnny thunder on' gives the reader the idea that Johnny Depp ,may be retiring from film production and people who are fans of him will buy in to the magazine as they support him and will want to find out his reasons for doing so.

The use of a turquoise background colour gives of the impression that the magazine will be informative. This is because the colour turquoise helps to open up communication from the heart to the spoken word. It is also a happy and friendly colour. Firstly this could show that they are representing men, and Johnny Depp as being happy and friendly. Secondly the colour could also represent that they interviewed Depp and have taken words that he has said from the heart, and put them into words in order to tell the audience about him.

The red colour for the writing 'Depp at 50' could show us that even though he is 50 years of age, he is still such a big idol who everyone loves. This is because the colour red in this connotes ideas of love and happiness, also a full heart. Showing that Johnny could have a heart full of love that he shares with his family, friends and fans. Which is something he acts on all the time, for example when he went to a children's hospital dressed as jack sparrow from The Pirates Of The Caribbean, in order to spread love and bring happiness to young children.
